Ingredients:
- 3 cups dried navy beans
- 8 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions:
- Rinse the navy beans thoroughly and place them in a large pot. Cover the beans with water and let them soak overnight. Drain and rinse the soaked beans.
- Preheat the oven to 325°F.
- In a large oven-safe Dutch oven or casserole dish, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until it becomes crispy and the fat has rendered. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set it aside on a paper towel-lined plate.
- In the same Dutch oven, sauté the diced onion and minced garlic in the bacon fat until they become softened and lightly browned.
- Add the cooked bacon back to the pot along with the soaked navy beans, tomato sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, salt, and ground black pepper. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
- Cover the Dutch oven with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven.
- Bake the beans for about 3-4 hours, or until the beans are tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir the beans occasionally during the baking process.
- Remove the baked beans from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
Serve the delicious baked beans with grilled meats or barbecues as a side dish. Also, you can enjoy them on their own. They are the perfect comfort food with a balance of smoky, sweet, and tangy flavors. So enjoy your homemade baked beans!
